How the comparison works

For each debt, the calculator works out how long your current payment takes to clear the balance and what you pay in total. It compares that with a single fixed loan for the combined balance.

When consolidation costs more

A longer term can cut your monthly payment but raise the total you repay. The calculator shows both, so you can see the trade-off.

If you are struggling

If your current payments are not affordable, speak to a free debt adviser such as MoneyHelper, StepChange or Citizens Advice before borrowing.

Frequently asked questions

Does consolidation hurt my credit score?

A new application adds a hard search. Clearing card balances and paying on time can improve your score over time.

What if a debt never clears at its current payment?

If the payment only covers interest, the balance will not fall. The calculator flags this.
